Lakeland: Tapatio’s (Memorial Blvd.)

Tapatio's restaurant exterior in Lakeland, FloridaWe have some delightful options for Latin food in Polk County, and my wife and I visited one of them recently, Tapatio’s in Lakeland.  You may recall we ate at Tapatio’s south Lakeland location in 2017, and we wanted to see if their original location on Memorial Boulevard lived up to the prior experience.

Taptatio's restaurant interior in Lakeland, FloridaTortilla chips and salsa at Tapatio's restaurant in Lakeland, FloridaThe restaurant interior is decorated in festive colors and there are some lovely paintings and murals on the walls.  This location is older than the south Lakeland location and it seems slightly more dated, but it is still a clean and welcoming place.  We were seated promptly and soon had the traditional chips and salsa.  The chips were quite good, not too greasy and not too salty.  For beverages, we both took advantage of the fact that Tapatio’s offers horchata.  Some horchata have a gritty textire, but this was smooth and flavorful, just right.

Tamale, beef enchilada, rice and refried beans at Tapatio's restaurant in Lakeland, FloridaWe both ordered combination plates for our main courses.  My wife’s plate had 1 enchilada (beef) and 1 tamale with rice and refried beans.  My plate had 1 taco (beef) and 1 enchilada (cheese) with rice and refried beans.  (We tend to order the same things at Mexican restaurants, it wouldn’t surprise me if we ordered the same or similar dishes at Tapatio’s south Lakeland location.)  The food was really outstanding.  They used an actual corn husk for the tamale, a nice touch.  The rice and beans were tasty.  The meat was well cooked in all the items.

Beef taco, cheese enchilada, rice and refried beans at Tapatio's restaurant in Lakeland, FloridaThrough the entire meal we enjoyed friendly service from our server.  And with tip our total came to a little under $30.  Such a deal for this much great food.  Tapatio’s is perhaps our favorite Polk County Mexican restaurant, so it’s even better that they have 2 Lakeland locations.  This time we were at their original restaurant on East Memorial Boulevard, just west of Lakeshore Drive.  When you’re in the mood for delicious Mexican food, give Tapatio’s a try.
