My wife and I recently enjoyed breakfast at Mitchell’s Coffee House in downtown Lakeland. We had been there before and have always liked Mitchell’s, a locally owned business started in 1998. It’s a great location, right in downtown and, if you’re there on a Saturday, a perfect way to start or finish a stroll through the Downtown Farmers Curb Market.
Inside, Mitchell’s has a classic and cozy cafe decor. They display rotating exhibits of work by local artists. Of course, Mitchell’s is a coffee house by name, but they have a variety of other beverages, a generous selection of pastries, a lunch menu that includes sandwiches (“sandmitches”), soups and salads, and a light breakfast menu that includes burritos, omelets, and croissants. The breakfast and lunch menus include vegetarian options. They also offer a catering service.
I ordered a hot chocolate to drink and my wife ordered a Mexican blend coffee (a dark roast). For breakfast, my wife chose the Mitchell’s Favorite breakfast burrito – a burrito with scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon, and cheddar cheese (it normally comes with Chipotle sauce but my wife asked for hers without). I selected a bacon, egg, and cheese croissant.
The service was friendly and efficient. We didn’t have to wait long for our food. There was a group of loud talkers there that sometimes made conversation a little awkward, but otherwise it was a comfortable and enjoyable experience. The food was delicious. The photo of the breakfast burrito doesn’t reflect how all the good stuff inside looked, but my wife described it as “the best breakfast burrito ever.” The coffee was very good, and the hot chocolate was good.
With tip, our total came to only about $17. Such a deal! This is a light breakfast, perfect if you’re grabbing something on the way to work, preparing for a stroll downtown, or just want a bite to eat while lounging in the coffee shop. Mitchell’s Coffee House is on Kentucky Avenue in downtown Lakeland, just a short stroll from Munn Park.
