My wife and I enjoyed a stroll through the Polk Museum of Art recently. If you’ve never been, it’s a first class museum and free all the time. Afterward, we went to Divicious Deli and Coffee Shop in downtown Lakeland for an early lunch. We had both been there before and I believe they offer one of the best Cuban sandwiches I’ve ever had.
Divicious is not a large restaurant and it tends to get busy and boisterous. It’s not the place to go for an intimate conversation. However, the staff is always friendly and patient in getting the details of an order correct. There are a few tables outside also. It’s a noise level that can cause me anxiety after a while, but it’s a very festive environment and worth it for the delicious food. One thing I like, because they are small and in a corner location, the restaurant gets a lot of natural light – something you can enjoy even more from one of the counter seats along the windows.
As for the food, my wife ordered a turkey Cuban sandwich with a side of loaded potato salad (that’s potato salad with bacon and sour cream). I ordered a TBL (for “turkey bacon lover’s”) sandwich, also with a side of loaded potato salad. I was offered a number of choices for condiments, cheese, and bread type, so you can generally customize your sandwiches as you like. I ordered iced tea to drink. My wife ordered a cafe con leche – she was offered it “Miami sweet” but went for “half sweet” instead and said that was plenty sweet for her tastes. She called this one of the best cafe con leches she has ever had.
The rest of the food was outstanding. Hearty, flavorful potato salad. The pressed sandwiches were not brought open-faced, but we photographed them that way to show off the contents. My wife especially like the avocado on her turkey Cuban sandwich. My sandwich had delicious tomato slices. Everything was tasty, and we even had a little left over to enjoy at home later.
With tip our total came to about $28. Divicious is a great place for sandwiches, whether you are eating there or taking your food to go. They also serve breakfast, and have a few salads and a veggie burger on their menu. A lively ambience, delicious food, and an excellent downtown location across the street from Munn Park. Give them a try!
